We have seen the entire world scrambling to contain Corona-virus and scientists trying to come up with vaccine to fight corona. The fatality rate of Corona is less than 3% and it seems like Nature is giving us warning to prepare ourselves.
Spanish Flu of 1918 affected 500 Million people and 20 Million people died over a period of 3 years but most fatalities happened in 3 months. We need to accept the fact that as Humans advance in technology, warfare and medicine, viruses become smarter, resilient and deadly. When we were all enjoying an all time high stock market and a ever growing housing market a virus destroyed all these gains in a matter of 3 months putting the entire world economy in to recession.
A fact that we need to understand is that if we wait for viruses to grow and attack, it may be too late to protect human population. If we don't know what the composition of virus is, how do we make an anecdote for it. So one thing is clear that making a vaccine to prevent human body fight the virus may not be an alternative in future. We are running out of time as viruses are getting venomous.
World is more connected now than ever and we can do much better in terms of communication. We need a coordinated effort to prevent the spread of virus. We must come up with a better and prompt communication system among all the scientists and doctors of the world to prepare ourselves for future. The world doctors must communicate real time if they see some symptoms which are new and are serious. Travel must stop on day one and not after a month. Schools must shut down promptly. The governments must have strict guidelines for its citizens. The supply chain infrastructure needs to be protected. We cannot repeat the same mistakes that we did this time during Corona. We cannot let the virus spread.
If we cannot find a cure, we need to innovate new ways to contain it. We need to develop gloves, masks, clothes etc that not only prevent us from getting infected but can kill the virus so that virus does not spread through contact. We need to innovate and come up with surfaces or surface sprays or surface paint such that the virus cannot stay alive for longer. For example on copper, corona virus was found to stay alive for only 4 hours.
We need new technology to detect a virus quickly. This technology must be deployed in all public transport system, hospitals, temples, schools, airports and any other place where people in large quantity gather. Once we can detect it, we can prevent it.
